In this podcast and video series, I explain who the redcoats were, how they were recruited, and how the British infantry regiments of the Napoleonic wars were organised.Β It’s a fascinating subject and one that clearly resonated with a large audience.

  1. I’ve been reading the Sharpe novels, and when I got to the Peninsular campaign I knew I needed more background information about the battles Cornwell describes. While digging through the internet I also found the second video listed on this page. Your simple description of how the infantry regiment was structured has been the single best, most informative explanation I’ve come across, and it adds so much to the pleasure I get from the Sharpe books. Thank you!
